Whether you are an avid roulette player or you’re just looking to break into the game, there are quite a few different strategies that you can use to increase your odds and get you ahead. One of the biggest things you need to realize is that with the game of roulette, there are absolutely NO guarantees of winning (in fact, the odds usually come out about even). Contrary to what you may have heard, there are really no special tricks as there are in other games (like counting cards in blackjack, or reading other people in poker). Each round is left entirely to chance, and the roulette wheel, so place your bets accordingly.
However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t some ways to bet that are better than others. For example, for a straight bet on a single number, with odds of 35:1, you can look at the payouts and decide whether or not it’s a good bet. Here, the chances of you winning are about one in every 38 spins on a “00″ wheel, and about one in every 37 spins on a European wheel. This isn’t really surprising, considering that you are only betting on one out of many numbers.
You should consider your other options, because even though other bets may carry lower payouts, they may give you greater gains in the long run. Odds/evens, red/black, and high/low bets all have lower odds than a straight bet, but they have a higher chance of coming up with each round.
